You may not be familiar with the name, Norman Bridwell, but chances are that you are familiar with his children's book series, Clifford the Big Red Dog. Mr. Bridwell was born in 1928 in Indiana, but in 1968 he moved to Martha's Vineyard in Cape Cod, Massachusetts with his family-- a wife and two children. The first book in the series was published in 1963 and since then there have been several books published where Clifford (a 25 foot red dog) and his young owner, Emily Elizabeth Howard experience many fun and exciting adventures on Birdwell Island and beyond. Scholastic Publishing reports that there are over 44 million copies of his books in print and several having been translated into other languages.
